Oven-Baked Classic Beef Lasagna



Ingredients



- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 cups marinara sauce
- 9 lasagna noodles
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions



1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Prepare the beef mixture:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and chopped onion.
- Cook until the beef is browned and the onion is translucent, about 8-10 minutes.
- Add minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Stir and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
- Pour in the marinara sauce, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3. Cook the noodles:
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente.
- Drain and lay them flat on a sheet of parchment paper to prevent sticking.

4. Mix the ricotta filling:
- In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Mix until well blended.

5. Assemble the lasagna:
- In a 9x13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the beef marinara sauce on the bottom.
- Place 3 lasagna noodles on top.
- Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.
- Layer with one-third of the remaining marinara sauce and sprinkle with one-third of the mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat the layers: noodles, ricotta mixture, sauce, and mozzarella.
- Top with remaining noodles, the last of the sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
- Sprinkle with the remaining Parmesan cheese.

6. Bake:
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

7. Rest and Serve:
- Allow the lasagna to rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
