Oven-Baked Jalapeño Cheesy Cabbage Casserole

Ingredients

- 1 medium head of cabbage, cored and sliced
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup Cheez Whiz
- 1 cup shredded pepper jack cheese
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1-2 jalapeños, sliced (adjust for spice preference)

Instructions

1. Preheat Oven
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Prepare Cabbage
- Slice the cabbage into thin strips and set aside.

3. Make Cheese Sauce
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the flour and whisk continuously for about 1 minute until it forms a paste (roux).
- Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the Cheez Whiz, pepper jack cheese, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Continue to whisk until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

4. Assemble Casserole
- In a large oven-safe dish, layer the sliced cabbage evenly.
- Pour the cheese sauce over the cabbage, ensuring even coverage.
- Top with sliced jalapeños.

5. Bake
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

6. Serve
- Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm.
