Oven-Baked Tomato and Cheese Tart with Crispy Bacon
Ingredients
- 1 ready-to-use pastry crust
- 4 medium tomatoes, sliced
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
- 6 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare a baking sheet or tart pan by lining it with parchment paper.
2. Prepare the Pastry Crust:
Unroll the pastry crust and place it onto the prepared baking sheet or into the tart pan. Press it gently to fit the pan and trim any overhanging edges.
3. Layer the Ingredients:
Evenly spread the mayonnaise over the bottom of the crust. Sprinkle the finely chopped onions over the mayonnaise.
4. Arrange the Tomatoes:
Layer the sliced tomatoes on top of the onions, slightly overlapping to cover the surface.
5. Add Cheese and Bacon:
Generously sprinkle the shredded cheese over the tomatoes. Follow with an even distribution of the crumbled bacon.
6. Bake the Tart:
Place the tart in the preheated oven. Bake for about 30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
7. Garnish with Basil:
Once baked, remove the tart from the oven. Allow it to cool slightly. Garnish with freshly chopped basil leaves.
8. Serve:
Slice the tart into quarters and serve warm. Ideal for a flavorful lunch accompanied by a fresh green salad.
