Oven-Glazed Pineapple Ham with Clove and Cherry Garnish
Ingredients
- 1 (8-10 pound) boneless or bone-in ham
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons mustard (yellow or dijon)
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 (20-ounce) can sliced pineapple rings (reserve juice)
- 1 cup pineapple juice (reserved from can)
- Maraschino cherries, as needed
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 325°F (162°C).
2. Prepare the Glaze
In a small mixing bowl, combine 1 cup brown sugar, 2 tablespoons mustard, 1 teaspoon ground cloves, and the reserved 1 cup of pineapple juice. Mix until it forms a smooth glaze.
3. Score the Ham
Place the ham on a baking rack inside a roasting pan. Using a sharp knife, lightly score the surface of the ham in a criss-cross pattern to allow the glaze to penetrate and enhance flavor.
4. Apply the Glaze
Generously brush the prepared glaze over the entire surface of the ham, ensuring it's well-covered.
5. Decorate with Pineapple and Cherries
Arrange pineapple rings over the ham, securing them in place with toothpicks. Place a maraschino cherry in the center of each pineapple ring, securing with additional toothpicks if needed.
6. Bake the Ham
Transfer the ham to the preheated oven. Bake for about 15 minutes per pound or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the ham reads 140°F (60°C). Baste the ham with the pan juices every 30 minutes for additional flavor and moisture.
7. Finish and Serve
Remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Slice and serve with the remaining glaze from the pan.
