Oven-Roasted Herb-Infused Turkey Gravy
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup turkey dripping
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (such as thyme, rosemary, and sage)
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven:
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Collect Turkey Drippings:
After roasting your turkey, collect the drippings from the roasting pan and set aside. This flavorful liquid will be the base of your gravy.
3. Melt Butter:
Place a medium-sized ovenproof saucepan on the stovetop over medium heat. Add 1/4 cup of unsalted butter and melt it completely, ensuring it does not brown.
4. Create a Roux:
Gradually whisk in 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour into the melted butter, stirring constantly until you achieve a smooth paste. Continue to cook the roux for about 2 minutes, allowing it to deepen in color slightly without burning.
5. Prepare Gravy Base:
Slowly whisk in the collected turkey drippings and 4 cups of low-sodium chicken broth, making sure it blends seamlessly with the roux. Increase the heat to medium-high, bringing the mixture to a gentle boil while stirring constantly.
6. Season and Add Herbs:
Once the gravy starts to thicken, add 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper. Stir in the chopped fresh herbs, distributing them evenly throughout the gravy.
7. Bake for Richness:
Transfer the saucepan into the preheated oven. Bake the gravy for 20 minutes. This step helps to meld the flavors and deepen the richness of the gravy.
8. Final Adjustments:
Carefully remove the saucepan from the oven using oven mitts. Taste the gravy and adjust the seasoning if necessary, adding more salt or pepper to your liking.
9. Serve:
Pour the hot, aromatic gravy into a gravy boat or serving dish. Serve it alongside your favorite roasted turkey or poultry dish for a delightful dinner experience.
