Oven-Roasted Onion Steaks with Herb Butter
Ingredients
- 4 large onions, peeled and cut into 1-inch thick slices
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
- Optional: 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. Prepare Onion Steaks: Carefully arrange the onion slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Ensure they lie flat and remain intact.
3. Herb Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, fresh thyme, fresh parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until fully incorporated.
4. Coat the Onions: Brush each onion slice evenly with olive oil using a pastry brush. Then, generously apply the herb butter mixture on top of each slice.
5. Roast the Onions: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast for 20 minutes. Then, flip each onion slice carefully with a spatula and continue roasting for an additional 15 minutes, or until the onions are tender and lightly caramelized.
6. Optional Parmesan Finish: If using Parmesan cheese, sprinkle it over the onion slices during the final 5 minutes of roasting for a golden, cheesy topping.
7. Drizzle and Serve: Drizzle the balsamic vinegar over the hot onion steaks just before serving. Transfer to a serving platter and enjoy as a savory side dish or a vegetarian main course.
