Oven-Roasted Spiced Chickpeas: A Crunchy, Flavorful Snack
Ingredients
- 2 cans (15 oz each) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for spice preference)
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. Prepare the Chickpeas
Drain and rinse the chickpeas thoroughly using a colander. Spread them out on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and pat them dry. Removing as much moisture as possible will help achieve a crispy texture.
3. Season the Chickpeas
In a large bowl, combine olive oil, smoked paprika, ground cumin, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, sea salt, and black pepper. Add the dried chickpeas to the bowl and toss well until the chickpeas are evenly coated with the oil and spices.
4. Arrange on Baking Sheet
Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the seasoned chickpeas out in a single layer on the sheet. Ensure they are not crowded to promote even roasting.
5. Roast the Chickpeas
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Roast the chickpeas for 30 to 35 minutes, stirring halfway through. They should be golden and crunchy. Watch closely in the final minutes to avoid burning.
6. Cool and Serve
Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the chickpeas to cool on the pan. They will continue to crisp up as they cool. Once cooled, transfer to a serving bowl and enjoy as a snack.
