Oven-Roasted Sweet Potato Snack with Herbs and Spices
Ingredients
- 4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into wedges
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
- 2 tablespoons bacon grease
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 cinnamon sticks
Instructions
1. Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheet
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
2. Mix the Sweet Potato Coating
In a large mixing bowl, combine olive oil, salt, pepper, minced garlic, thyme, rosemary, red chili flakes, and bacon grease. Stir well to make sure the mixture is evenly combined.
3. Coat the Sweet Potatoes
Add the sweet potato wedges to the bowl and toss thoroughly to ensure each piece is evenly coated with the oil and herb mixture.
4. Prepare the Glaze
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, water, butter, lemon juice, and cinnamon sticks. Stir occasionally and let it simmer for about 5 minutes until the sugar has completely dissolved and the flavors meld.
5. Bake the Sweet Potatoes
Arrange the coated sweet potato wedges in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle half of the glaze over the sweet potatoes and reserve the rest for later.
6. Roasting Time
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast for 25-30 minutes. Halfway through, flip the sweet potatoes using a spatula for even cooking.
7. Final Touch
Remove the baking sheet from the oven and drizzle the remaining glaze over the sweet potatoes. Return to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes until they are caramelized and tender.
8. Serve
Let the sweet potatoes cool briefly. Serve warm as a snack or side dish. Enjoy!
