Pan-Fried Mortadella with Pesto & Fresh Mozzarella Baguette
Ingredients
- 1 Baguette Ficelle, sliced in half lengthwise
- 4 slices Mortadella
- 2 tbsp Pesto
- 4 oz Fresh Mozzarella, sliced
- 1 tbsp Capers, drained
- 2 tbsp Olive oil
Instructions
1. Prepare the Baguette:
- Cut the Ficelle baguette in half lengthwise and spread 1 tablespoon of pesto evenly on the inner side of each half. Set aside.
2. Prepare the Mortadella:
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add the mortadella slices to the skillet and pan-fry for 2–3 minutes on each side until slightly caramelized and golden brown. Transfer the mortadella to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
3. Assemble the Baguette:
- On the bottom half of the baguette, layer the pan-fried mortadella slices.
- Place fresh mozzarella slices over the mortadella, ensuring even coverage.
- Scatter the capers evenly over the mozzarella.
4. Grill the Baguette:
- In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil.
- Place the bottom half of the baguette in the skillet, mozzarella side up, and place a lid over the skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes until the cheese begins to melt and the bread is slightly crispy.
- Meanwhile, lightly toast the top half of the baguette in the skillet for 1 minute, cut side down, until golden.
5. Serve:
- Remove the baguette halves from the skillet.
- Close the sandwich with the top half and press gently.
- Cut into 4 even pieces and serve immediately.
