Pan-Fried Salmon with Soy-Ginger Glaze

Ingredients

- 4 salmon fillets (approximately 6 oz each)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, finely grated
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ground mustard (optional)
- 2 tablespoons orange juice (optional)
- 2 tablespoons pineapple juice (optional)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Soy-Ginger Glaze:
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, brown sugar, and ground mustard (if using). For a tangier glaze, add the orange juice, pineapple juice, and lemon juice. Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of brown sugar to taste.

2. Make the Slurry:
In another bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in the water and add to your soy-ginger mixture. Stir well to combine. This will help thicken your glaze during cooking.

3. Season the Salmon:
Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.

4. Pan-Fry the Salmon:
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, place the salmon fillets skin-side down in the skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes until the skin is crispy and golden brown.

5. Add the Soy-Ginger Glaze:
Flip the salmon fillets carefully, and pour the soy-ginger glaze over them. Allow the glaze to simmer and thicken, cooking the fillets for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until they reach your desired doneness.

6. Finishing Touches:
Sprinkle the sesame seeds over the salmon fillets and continue to cook for 1 more minute. Remove from heat.

7. Garnish and Serve:
Transfer the glazed salmon fillets to a serving plate. Garnish with sliced green onions and additional sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot as an elegant dinner entrée.
