Perfectly Baked Apple Crisp
Ingredients
- Topping:
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 3/4 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped
- Filling:
- 6 tart apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Prepare the Topping:
In a medium-sized bowl, combine the rolled oats, brown sugar, all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, and kosher salt. Pour the melted butter over the mixture and use a fork to stir until it resembles coarse crumbs. Mix in the chopped walnuts or pecans. Set aside.
3. Prepare the Filling:
In a large bowl, toss the sliced tart apples with the additional all-purpose flour, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until evenly coated.
4. Assemble the Crisp:
Place the apple mixture in an even layer into a greased 9x9 inch baking dish. Sprinkle the prepared oat topping evenly over the apples.
5. Bake:
Place the assembled apple crisp into the preheated oven. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
6. Cool and Serve:
Remove the apple crisp from the oven and allow it to cool slightly on a wire rack for about 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm, possibly with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
