Perfectly Baked Apple Tart Delight
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- 1 package (2 sheets) frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) and allow it to preheat while you prepare the tart.
2. Prepare the Apple Filling: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced apples, lemon juice, and brown sugar. Stir to combine and cook for about 8 minutes or until the apples begin to soften.
3. Add Spice and Thicken: Sprinkle in the ground cinnamon, stirring to coat the apples evenly. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with cold water until smooth. Pour this mixture into the skillet and continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the juices thicken.
4. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Roll out each puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface until slightly thinner. Place one sheet on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
5. Layer with Apples: Spoon the prepared apple mixture evenly over the puff pastry sheet, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
6. Top with Second Pastry Sheet: Lay the second puff pastry sheet over the apples. Press down the edges with a fork to seal the pastry layers together.
7. Bake: Insert the baking sheet into the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
8. Prepare the Glaze: While the tart bakes, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth.
9. Glaze the Tart: Once baked, remove the tart from the oven and cool slightly for about 5 minutes. Drizzle the glaze evenly over the top of the warm tart.
10. Serve: Slice into squares and serve warm or at room temperature.
