Perfectly Grilled Trio of Beef Burgers
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground chuck
- 1 pound ground round
- 1 pound ground sirloin
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 sesame seed burger buns
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 4 slices onion
- 4 tablespoons ketchup
- 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
Instructions
1. Prepare the Grill:
- Ignite the charcoal in your grill and allow it to reach medium-high heat. Wait until the charcoal is covered with a layer of gray ash, which should take about PT30M (30 minutes).
2. Mix the Beef:
- In a large mixing bowl, gently combine the ground chuck, ground round, and ground sirloin.
- Sprinkle with salt and pepper, then add Worcestershire sauce. Mix lightly until just combined. Avoid overworking the meat, as it can lead to tough burgers.
3. Form the Patties:
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a burger patty approximately 1 inch thick, making an indentation in the center of each to ensure even cooking.
4. Grill the Burgers:
- Place the patties on the grill over direct heat. Cook for approximately PT9M (9 minutes), flipping once halfway through the cooking time, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
5. Melt the Cheese:
- During the last minute of grilling, add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty. Close the grill lid to allow the cheese to melt.
6. Prepare the Buns:
- Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill for about PT2M (2 minutes), until golden brown.
7. Assemble the Burgers:
- Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on each bottom bun half.
- Place the grilled patties with melted cheese on top. Add a slice of onion, lettuce leaf, and tomato slice.
- Spread 1 tablespoon of ketchup on each top bun half and place over the assembled ingredients.
