Perfectly Poached Eggs with Seasoned Vinegar Drizzle
Ingredients
- 4 large eggs
- 4 cups water
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon salt, divided
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
Instructions
1. Prepare the Poaching Liquid:
In a medium-sized saucepan, pour in the 4 cups of water. Add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the liquid to a gentle simmer. You should see small bubbles forming at the bottom of the pan, not a rolling boil.
2. Crack Eggs Individually:
Crack each egg into small ramekins or cups. This will make it easier to gently slide them into the simmering water.
3. Poach the Eggs:
Create a gentle whirlpool in the simmering water by stirring with a spoon. This helps the egg whites wrap around the eggs, yielding a rounded shape. Carefully slide one egg at a time into the center of the whirlpool. Poach each egg for approximately 3 to 4 minutes.
4. Check Doneness:
Using a slotted spoon, lift an egg out of the water and gently touch the white. It should feel firm but the yolk should remain soft. If needed, let it poach for an additional 30 seconds to 1 minute.
5. Season the Poached Eggs:
Once all eggs are poached, remove them from the water using a slotted spoon, and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess water. Season each egg with a sprinkle of the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of salt and freshly ground black pepper.
6. Serve:
Plate the poached eggs individually or arrange them on toasted bread, salads, or savory oatmeal as desired. Drizzle with a touch of the poaching vinegarif you like a tangy finish.
