Pumpkin Custard Delight
Ingredients
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- 3 large eggs
- 1 1/4 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and allow it to preheat fully prior to starting your preparation.
2. Prepare the Custard Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Whisk these ingredients together until the mixture is smooth and well-blended.
3. Incorporate the Milk
Gradually whisk in the milk to the pumpkin mixture, ensuring even distribution and a uniform consistency.
4. Prepare the Baking Dish
Choose a medium-sized baking dish (like an 8x8-inch) or individual ramekins if preferred. Lightly grease them with butter or non-stick spray.
5. Pour and Arrange
Carefully pour the custard mix into the prepared dish or ramekins, distributing evenly if using multiples.
6. Set up a Water Bath
To ensure even cooking and avoid cracks, place the baking dish or ramekins into a larger baking pan. Fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the baking dish or ramekins.
7. Bake the Custard
Place the arrangement in the oven and bake for about 45 minutes, or until the custard sets in the center. You can check it by inserting a knife into the middle; it should come out clean.
8. Cool and Serve
Once baked, carefully remove the custards from the water bath. Allow them to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving chilled.
