Sautéed Cabbage with Lime and Green Onion
Ingredients
- 1 medium head of cabbage, thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 ½ teaspoons lime zest
- 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 4 green onions, sliced thinly
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
1. Prepare the Cabbage:
- Remove any tough or wilted outer leaves from the cabbage.
- Cut the cabbage in half, remove the core, and thinly slice each half.
2. Heat the Butter:
- Place a large skillet on the stove over medium heat.
- Add the butter and allow it to melt completely, swirling the pan to coat the surface evenly.
3. Cook the Cabbage:
- Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet. Sauté it, stirring occasionally, for about 10-12 minutes or until it becomes tender and begins to brown slightly.
4. Add Flavor:
- Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the lime zest and lime juice.
- Add the sliced green onions, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Mix well to ensure the flavors are evenly distributed.
5. Simmer for Flavor Infusion:
- Allow the mixture to simmer over low heat for an additional 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, to let all the flavors meld together.
6. Final Touches:
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. You can add a bit more lime juice or salt to your preference.
- Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish.
7. Serve:
- Serve hot, garnished with a few extra slices of green onion if desired.
