Savory Bratwurst and Sauerkraut Sandwiches
Ingredients
- 4 Bratwursts
- 1 Sweet onion, thinly sliced
- 1 Red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 cup Malty lager
- 2 tablespoons Avocado oil
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 4 Bread rolls
- 1/4 cup Ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Spicy brown mustard
- 2 tablespoons Yellow mustard
- 1 cup Sauerkraut, drained
Instructions
1. Prepare the Vegetables:
In a large skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of avocado oil. Once shimmering, add the sliced sweet onion and red bell pepper. Season with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are soft and slightly caramelized. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
2. Cook the Bratwursts:
In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of avocado oil. Place the bratwursts in the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes on each side until they are browned.
3. Simmer with Lager:
Pour the malty lager over the browned bratwursts. Allow them to simmer, uncovered, for approximately 10-15 minutes. The lager should reduce, and the bratwursts should cook through completely.
4. Toast the Bread Rolls:
While the bratwursts are simmering, lightly toast the bread rolls on a stovetop griddle or in an oven until they are golden brown.
5. Assemble the Sandwiches:
Slice each bratwurst lengthwise, but not all the way through, to open them up. Place each bratwurst inside a toasted bread roll. Top with caramelized onion and bell pepper mixture, a generous helping of sauerkraut, a drizzle of ketchup, spicy brown mustard, and yellow mustard.
6. Serve Immediately:
Serve the sandwiches warm for the best flavor.
