Savory Breakfast Sausage Patties with Maple Glaze
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 8 fresh sage leaves, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon coriander seeds, crushed
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- 1 small sweet onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ingredients
- Chop the fresh sage leaves finely.
- Finely chop the sweet onion.
2. Mix the Sausage
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork and ground chicken.
- Add the chopped sage leaves, sea salt, ground black pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, coriander seeds, smoked paprika, poultry seasoning, and chopped onion to the meat mixture.
- Mix well using your hands or a large wooden spoon until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
3. Shape the Patties
- Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into patties approximately 3 inches in diameter and 3/4 inch thick.
4. Prepare the Maple Glaze
- In a small bowl, combine the maple syrup and brown sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
5. Pan Fry the Sausage Patties
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and lightly grease it with oil or cooking spray.
- Place the sausage patties in the skillet, leaving space between each one.
- Cook for about 5 minutes on each side or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the outsides are golden brown.
6. Glaze the Patties
- During the last minute of cooking, brush the tops of the sausage patties with the maple glaze.
- Flip the patties and brush the other side. Cook for another 30 seconds to let the glaze caramelize.
7. Serve
- Remove patties from the skillet and let them rest for a few minutes before serving. Serve them hot.
