Savory Caramelized Onion & Cream Cheese Dip



Ingredients



- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 large sweet onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup dry white wine
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh chives, sliced

Instructions



1. Caramelize the Onions:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.
- Add the thinly sliced sweet onions and sprinkle with the brown sugar.
- Stir occasionally, cooking for about PT15M (15 minutes) until the onions become golden brown and soft.

2. Add Garlic and Wine:
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another PT2M (2 minutes) until fragrant.
- Pour in the dry white wine and balsamic vinegar, continuing to cook for PT5M (5 minutes) until the liquid reduces and the mixture becomes syrupy.

3. Season the Onions:
- Add the Worcestershire sauce, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper.
- Stir well to combine the flavors and remove from heat.

4. Prepare the Dip Base:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise.
- Use a hand mixer or a whisk to blend until smooth and creamy.

5. Combine and Serve:
- Gently fold the caramelized onion mixture into the cream cheese blend.
- Transfer the dip into a serving dish and sprinkle with freshly sliced chives.
