Savory Olive Oil Crispy Chickpeas
Ingredients
- 1 can (15 ounces) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper for added heat
Instructions
1. Prepare the Chickpeas:
- Drain and rinse the chickpeas thoroughly in a colander. Shake off any excess water.
- Spread the chickpeas on a clean kitchen towel and pat them dry. Remove any loose skins for maximum crispiness.
2. Season the Chickpeas:
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the chickpeas with olive oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika, sea salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using).
- Toss until the chickpeas are evenly coated with the oil and spices.
3. Preheat the Pan:
- Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat for about 2 minutes.
4. Pan Fry the Chickpeas:
- Once the skillet is hot, add the seasoned chickpeas.
- Spread them into a single layer and allow them to cook undisturbed for 3–4 minutes.
- Begin stirring occasionally, ensuring all sides of the chickpeas get golden brown and crispy.
- Pan fry for a total of 10-12 minutes, until they reach your desired level of crispiness.
5. Cool and Serve:
- Remove the chickpeas from the skillet and transfer them to a plate lined with a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
- Allow them to cool for 5 minutes. This will enhance their crunchy texture.
