Savory Pan-Fried Steak with Red Wine Oregano Glaze
Ingredients
- 2 ribeye steaks (about 1 inch thick)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, freshly ground, to taste
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
Instructions
1. Prepare the Steaks
- Pat the ribeye steaks dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt and freshly ground pepper. Allow seasoned steaks to sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
2. Heat the Pan
- In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the butter and let it melt completely, creating a flavorful base for the steaks.
3. Pan-Fry the Steaks
- Once the mixture of butter and oil is hot and fragrant, add the steaks to the pan. Cook for approximately 3 to 4 minutes on each side, depending on desired doneness (3 minutes for medium-rare).
4. Rest the Steaks
- Remove the steaks from the pan and transfer them to a plate. Tent with aluminum foil and let rest for at least 5 minutes. This ensures the juices are redistributed, keeping them tender.
5. Make the Red Wine Oregano Glaze
- In the same skillet, pour in 1/2 cup red wine. Scrape up any browned bits from the steak with a wooden spoon. Allow the wine to reduce by half, about 3 minutes.
- Add 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, stirring frequently, until the glaze thickens and coats the back of the spoon.
6. Serve
- Slice the rested steaks against the grain and arrange on a serving dish. Drizzle the red wine oregano glaze over the slices and garnish with additional oregano if desired.
