Silky Vanilla Custard Delight
Ingredients
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ingredients: In a medium-sized saucepan, combine 2 cups of milk, 1/3 cup of sugar, and 1/8 teaspoon of salt. Mix well until the sugar dissolves slightly.
2. Mix the Cornstarch: In a small bowl, dissolve 2 tablespoons of cornstarch in a few tablespoons of the cold milk. Stir until a smooth slurry forms, making sure there are no lumps.
3. Heat the Milk Mixture: Place the saucepan on the stove over medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent the milk from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Heat until the milk is hot but not boiling.
4. Thicken the Mixture: Slowly add the cornstarch slurry into the heated milk while continuously whisking to ensure even consistency. The mixture will begin to thicken. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until the custard has a pudding-like consistency.
5. Add the Butter and Vanilla: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons of butter and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated and the butter has melted.
6. Cool and Set: Pour the custard into serving dishes and let them cool to room temperature. Transfer to the refrigerator to chill for at least 1 hour to set properly.
7. Serve and Enjoy: Once chilled, serve the Silky Vanilla Custard Delight on its own or with your favorite garnish, like a sprinkle of cinnamon or fresh berries.
