Slow-Cooked BBQ Pork Butt with Hickory Smoke

Ingredients

- 4 lbs Pork Butt Roast
- 1 tbsp Hickory Liquid Smoke
- 1 cup Ketchup
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes

Instructions

1. Preparation of Pork Butt:
Pat the pork butt roast dry with paper towels. Place it on a clean cutting board and let it sit at room temperature for about PT15M (15 minutes).

2. Prepare the Sauce:
In a mixing bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and hickory liquid smoke. Stir the mixture until the sugar has dissolved completely, resulting in a smooth sauce.

3. Season the Pork Butt:
Sprinkle the pork roast evenly with the red pepper flakes, giving it a gentle rub to ensure the flakes adhere to the meat.

4. Crock Pot Setup:
Place the seasoned pork butt into the crock pot. Pour the sauce mixture over the roast, ensuring it is well-coated.

5. Cooking Process:
Set your crock pot to low heat. Cook the pork butt for PT8H (8 hours) until it is tender and easily shredded with a fork.

6. Shredding the Pork:
Once cooked, remove the pork butt from the crock pot and place it on a large platter. Use two forks to shred the meat, discarding any excess fatty pieces.

7. Final Touches:
Return the shredded pork to the crock pot, stirring it well so that it is consistently coated in the sauce. Let it cook for an additional PT30M (30 minutes) to absorb more flavor.

8. Serving Suggestions:
Serve the BBQ pork warm, either on toasted buns for sandwiches, alongside coleslaw, or as a main dish paired with your favorite sides.
