Spiced Sautéed Beef with Carrots and Mushrooms
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 large carrots, diced
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1-2 chiles, minced (adjust to taste)
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Preparation:
Begin by gathering and preparing all your ingredients. Dice the carrots, slice the mushrooms, and mince the garlic, ginger, and chiles.
2. Sauté Vegetables:
In a large skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil. Once heated, add diced carrots and sauté for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally until they begin to soften.
3. Add Aromatics:
Add minced garlic, ginger, and chiles to the skillet. Stir for about 1 minute until fragrant.
4. Cook the Mushrooms:
Add the sliced mushrooms to the pan. Stir frequently and cook for another 5 minutes until the mushrooms are tender and have released their moisture. Remove the vegetables from the skillet and set them aside.
5. Brown the Beef:
In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, approximately 6-7 minutes.
6. Season the Beef:
Reduce the heat to medium and return the vegetables to the skillet. Stir in the soy sauce, cumin, coriander, garam masala, and a bit of salt and black pepper. Combine well and cook for approximately 5 more minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
7. Adjust and Finish:
Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning if necessary. If you prefer more heat, consider adding extra minced chiles. Once seasoned to your liking, remove from heat.
8. Serve:
Plate the beef and vegetable mixture hot. This dish can be served with steamed rice or warm flatbreads.
