Spiced Shrimp Tacos with Smoky Avocado Slaw



Ingredients



- For the Shrimp:
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 tablespoon ancho chile powder
- 1 teaspoon chipotle chile powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter

- For the Slaw:
- 1/2 small red cabbage, thinly sliced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
- 2 limes, juiced
- 1 large avocado, diced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

- For Serving:
- Corn tortillas (8 small)
- Flour tortillas (8 small)

Instructions



1. Prepare the Spice Mix:
- In a small bowl, mix together the ancho chile powder, chipotle chile powder, smoked paprika, unsweetened cocoa powder, ground cumin, ground coriander, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper.

2. Season the Shrimp:
- In a medium bowl, toss the shrimp with the prepared spice mix until evenly coated. Let the shrimp marinate for approximately PT10M (10 minutes).

3. Make the Slaw:
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced red cabbage, onion, chopped cilantro, lime juice, diced avocado, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Toss gently to combine. Set aside to let the flavors meld.

4. Cook the Shrimp:
- Heat the 2 tablespoons of butter in a large pan over medium-high heat. Once the butter is melted and bubbling, add the seasoned shrimp.
- Cook the shrimp, stirring occasionally, until they are pink and opaque, about PT5M (5 minutes). Remove from heat immediately to prevent overcooking.

5. Assemble the Tacos:
- Briefly warm the corn and flour tortillas in a dry skillet or directly over a gas flame for 30 seconds each side until pliable.
- Place a generous scoop of the smoky avocado slaw onto each tortilla.
- Top with a few shrimp, ensuring each taco has an even distribution.
