Spicy Chili Cornbread Bake
Ingredients
- 1 box of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix (8.5 oz.)
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup of milk
- 1/4 cup of chili water (use liquid from your favorite chili recipe or canned chili)
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place a middle rack in the oven for even baking.
2. Prepare the Baking Dish: Grease a 9-inch round or square baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. This will help prevent the cornbread from sticking and ensure easy removal after baking.
3. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add the contents of the Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix box, onion powder, and kosher salt. Stir them together until evenly combined.
4. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and chili water. This mixture will add moisture and flavor to your cornbread.
5. Incorporate All Ingredients: Pour the wet ingredient mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
6. Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. Use the spatula to spread it evenly for consistent baking.
7. Bake: Place the baking dish on the middle rack of the preheated oven. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
8. Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove the dish from the oven and allow the cornbread to cool for a few minutes before serving. This dish pairs excellently with chili or can be enjoyed on its own.
