Stove-Top Apple Cider Salted Caramel Drizzle
Ingredients
- 1 cup apple cider
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
1. Prepare Your Ingredients
Gather all your ingredients and have them ready at the stove. Ensure the butter is cut into small cubes for easy melting.
2. Simmer the Apple Cider
In a medium saucepan, bring 1 cup of apple cider to a simmer over medium heat. Allow it to simmer until it reduces to about 1/4 cup, approximately PT10M (10 minutes).
3. Start the Caramel
Add 1 cup of granulated sugar to the reduced apple cider. Stir occasionally over medium heat until the mixture begins to dissolve and turns a light amber color, approximately PT5M (5 minutes).
4. Incorporate the Butter
Gradually add the cubed butter to the sugar mixture. Stir continuously as the butter melts and incorporates, another PT3M (3 minutes).
5. Slowly Add the Cream
Carefully pour in 1/2 cup of heavy cream while stirring. The mixture will bubble up, but continue to stir until fully combined and smooth. This should take about PT2M (2 minutes).
6. Flavor the Caramel
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon of sea salt until fully combined, approximately PT1M (1 minute).
7. Cool and Serve
Allow the caramel to cool slightly before using it as a dessert topping. It will thicken as it cools. Perfect for drizzling over ice cream, pies, or any dessert of your choice.
