Stove-Top Blueberry Compote for Breakfast
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh blueberries
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ingredients:
Gently rinse the blueberries under cold water and drain them well. Measure out the sugar, water, lemon juice, and vanilla extract to have them ready for cooking.
2. Combine Initial Ingredients:
In a medium saucepan, combine the blueberries, sugar, and water. Stir them together with a wooden spoon until the sugar begins to dissolve.
3. Heating Process:
Place the saucepan over medium heat on the stove. Allow the mixture to come to a slow boil, stirring occasionally, which should take about 5 minutes.
4. Simmer and Thicken:
Once the mixture starts boiling, reduce your stove's heat to low. Add in the lemon juice and vanilla extract, stirring to incorporate them fully. Let the mixture simmer for an additional 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the compote starts to thicken and the blueberries begin to burst.
5. Final Touch and Cool Down:
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the compote cool slightly. The compote will continue to thicken as it cools. Serve warm over pancakes, waffles, or your favorite breakfast bread.
