Stovetop Corn Butter Bread with Savory Seasoning
Ingredients
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning (optional)
- 1 tablespoon favorite seasoning (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Batter:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of cornmeal, 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of milk, 1/4 cup of melted unsalted butter, and 1 large egg until well combined.
- Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring continuously until you achieve a smooth batter.
2. Heat the Stove:
- Set a medium-sized non-stick skillet over low heat on the stove.
- Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and let it heat up for about a minute.
3. Cook the Bread:
- Pour the batter into the skillet. Cook for around 5 minutes on each side or until both sides are crispy golden brown and the interior is cooked through. Use a spatula to gently flip the bread halfway through cooking.
- Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; if it comes out clean, the bread is ready.
4. Add Seasoning:
- Once cooked, remove the bread from the skillet.
- While it's still warm, generously sprinkle 1 tablespoon of Old Bay seasoning or your favorite seasoning, if desired.
5. Serving:
- Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing into wedges or squares for serving.
