Stovetop Creamy Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients
- 3 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
1. Prep the Potatoes
Start by peeling 3 pounds of Yukon gold potatoes. Cut them into 1-inch cubes for even cooking. Place the cubed potatoes in a large pot.
2. Boil the Potatoes
Fill the pot with cold water, ensuring the potatoes are completely submerged. Add 1 teaspoon of the kosher salt to the water.
Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and let the potatoes simmer for about 15 minutes, or until they are fork-tender.
3. Heat the Cream and Butter
While the potatoes are boiling, place 1 cup of heavy cream and 1/2 cup of unsalted butter in a small saucepan. Gently heat over low heat until the butter is fully melted and the cream is warm but not boiling.
4. Drain and Mash the Potatoes
Once the potatoes are done, drain them thoroughly and return them to the pot. Allow them to sit for 2 minutes, letting any excess moisture evaporate.
5. Create Creamy Potatoes
Begin mashing the potatoes with a potato masher or ricer until smooth. Gradually add the warm cream and butter mixture, mashing continuously until you achieve a creamy consistency.
6. Season to Taste
Stir in the remaining 1 teaspoon of kosher salt and 1 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
7. Serve Warm
