Stuffed Bell Peppers with Beef and Sausage
Ingredients
- 4 large bell peppers (any color)
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound Italian sausage
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
Instructions
1. Prepare the Bell Peppers:
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Cut the tops off the bell peppers and remove the seeds and membranes. Place them upright in a baking dish.
2. Cook the Filling:
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, combine the ground beef and Italian sausage. Cook until browned, about 7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
3. Saute Aromatics:
Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 3 minutes until the onion is translucent.
4. Combine Ingredients:
Stir in the cooked rice, tomato sauce, drained diced tomatoes, water, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Mix well and allow to simmer for 5 minutes.
5. Stuff the Peppers:
Spoon the meat mixture evenly into each hollowed bell pepper. Pour marinara sauce over the filled peppers and around the base of the peppers in the baking dish.
6. Bake the Peppers:
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
7. Add Cheese and Finish Baking:
Remove the foil, sprinkle cheese over each stuffed pepper, and return to the oven. Bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
8. Serve:
Let the stuffed peppers cool for a few minutes before serving hot.
