Succulent Crock Pot BBQ Brisket
Ingredients
- 4 pounds brisket
- 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 tablespoon dried mustard
- 1 1/2 cups hickory barbecue sauce
Instructions
1. Prepare the Brisket:
Rinse the brisket under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Trim any excess fat, leaving a thin layer for flavor.
2. Create the Rub:
In a small bowl, mix together the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, black pepper, kosher salt, cayenne pepper, and dried mustard until well combined.
3. Season the Brisket:
Thoroughly coat the brisket with the spice rub, ensuring an even distribution across all sides. Massage the rub into the meat for enhanced flavor.
4. Prepare the Crock Pot:
Place the brisket into the crock pot, fatty side up. Pour 1/2 cup of the hickory barbecue sauce over the brisket, saving the remaining sauce for later.
5. Slow Cook the Brisket:
Set the crock pot to low and cook for approximately 8 hours until the brisket is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
6. Add the Barbecue Sauce:
About 30 minutes before serving, add the remaining barbecue sauce, turning the brisket to coat thoroughly. Continue to cook on low.
7. Rest and Serve:
Once cooked, remove the brisket from the crock pot and let it rest on a cutting board for 10 minutes before slicing against the grain. Serve with additional sauce from the crock pot.
