Succulent Herb-Roasted Turkey



Ingredients



- 12-pound whole turkey, thawed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 2 teaspoons dried thyme
- 2 teaspoons dried rosemary
- 2 teaspoons dried sage
- 1 lemon, quartered
- 1 onion, quartered
- 4 garlic cloves, crushed
- 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth

Instructions



1. Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F.

2. Prepare the Turkey
- Remove the neck and giblets from the turkey cavity. Rinse the turkey thoroughly under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

3. Season the Turkey
- In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, rosemary, and sage.
- Carefully loosen the skin over the turkey breast by gently running your hands between the skin and meat. Rub half of the butter mixture under the skin. Rub the remaining butter mixture all over the exterior of the turkey.

4. Stuff the Turkey
- Place the quartered lemon, onion, and crushed garlic cloves inside the turkey cavity.

5. Tie the Legs
- Using kitchen twine, tie the turkey legs together and tuck the wing tips under the body to prevent them from burning.

6. Roast the Turkey

Place the turkey breast-side up on a rack in a roasting pan. Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the pan. Roast the turkey in the preheated oven for approximately 3 hours, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh reads 165°F.

7. Baste and Rest
- Every 45 minutes, baste the turkey with the pan juices to keep it moist and flavorful.
- Once cooked, remove the turkey from the oven and let rest for 30 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.
