Tangy Lemon-Pepper Seared Tuna for Lunch
Ingredients
- 2 tuna steaks (approximately 6 oz each)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for extra heat)
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
1. Prep the Tuna:
Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels. Lightly season both sides with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
2. Create a Marinade:
In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, lemon zest, lemon juice, minced garlic, and, if desired, red pepper flakes. Whisk the mixture until it emulsifies.
3. Marinate the Tuna:
Place the tuna steaks in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Make sure each steak is fully coated. Cover and let it marinate for 10 minutes at room temperature, turning halfway through.
4. Heat the Pan:
Set a large skillet over medium-high heat. Let it heat for about 2 minutes to ensure it's hot enough to sear the tuna.
5. Sear the Tuna:
Add a small drizzle of olive oil to the pan. Place the marinated tuna steaks in the pan. Sear for about 2 minutes on each side, or until a slightly crispy crust forms but the center remains rare.
6. Finish and Serve:
Remove the tuna from the pan and let it rest on a cutting board for 2 minutes. Sprinkle the chopped fresh parsley over the top. Slice the tuna steaks crosswise into 1/4-inch thick slices.
7. Plate:
Serve the tuna with lemon wedges on the side and garnish with additional parsley if desired.
