The Ultimate Double Cheese Sourdough Grilled Sandwich
Ingredients
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 4 slices American cheese
- 4 slices sharp Cheddar cheese
Instructions
1. Prepare the Bread and Spread:
Lay out the 4 slices of sourdough bread on a clean surface. Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice, ensuring even coverage for a golden crust.
2. Assemble the Sandwiches:
Turn the buttered sides down. Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on the unbuttered side of each slice. Layer one slice of American cheese and one slice of Cheddar cheese on two of the bread slices. Close each sandwich with the remaining bread slices, mayonnaise side facing the cheese.
3. Preheat the Pan:
Place a large non-stick skillet or pan on the stove over medium-low heat. Allow the pan to warm up for about 2-3 minutes.
4. Grill the Sandwiches:
Carefully place the sandwiches in the pan. Cook for approximately 4-5 minutes on each side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is crisp and golden brown and the cheese has melted. Adjust the heat as necessary to prevent burning.
5. Serve:
Once the sandwiches are golden on both sides and the cheese is oozing, remove them from the skillet. Let them rest for about 1 minute before slicing each sandwich diagonally. Serve hot to enjoy the perfect melt!
