Tomato Basil Garlic Sauté
Ingredients
- 4 large tomatoes, diced
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
Instructions
1. Prepare Ingredients: Begin by washing and dicing the tomatoes. Rinse the basil leaves and chop them coarsely. Mince the garlic cloves and thinly slice the onion.
2. Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat for about 1–2 minutes.
3. Sauté the Onion and Garlic: Add the sliced onion to the skillet and sauté for 5 minutes until it becomes translucent, stirring occasionally. Add the minced garlic and continue to sauté for another 1 minute, being careful not to let the garlic burn.
4. Cook the Tomatoes: Add the diced tomatoes to the skillet. Stir well to combine them with the onion and garlic mixture. Allow them to cook for 10–15 minutes until they start to break down and release their juices, stirring occasionally.
5. Season the Dish: Sprinkle 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon dried oregano over the tomato mixture. Stir well to ensure even seasoning.
6. Add Basil: Add the chopped basil leaves to the skillet. Stir them into the tomato mixture and let everything simmer for an additional 5 minutes until the basil is wilted and flavors meld together.
7. Final Touch: Taste the sauté and adjust seasoning if necessary. Remove from heat and serve warm, garnishing with additional fresh basil if desired.
