Ultimate Charcoal-Grilled Cheeseburgers
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 large leaves lettuce
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 8 dill pickle slices
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 4 tablespoons ketchup
Instructions
1. Prepare the Grill
Light your charcoal grill and let it heat until the coals are covered with a fine gray ash, which should take about 20 minutes.
2. Form the Patties
In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef with the salt and black pepper. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties about 3/4-inch thick, making a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
3. Grill the Burgers
Place the patties on the grill over medium-high heat. Grill for about 3 minutes on one side, then flip the patties.
4. Add Cheese and Finish Cooking
After flipping, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Grill for another 3-4 minutes, or until the beef reaches an internal temperature of 160°F and the cheese has melted.
5. Prepare the Buns
During the last minute of cooking, arrange the hamburger buns cut side down on the grill to toast lightly.
6. Assemble the Burgers
Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Place the lettuce leaf, followed by a cooked patty with melted cheese, onto the bun. Top with a slice of tomato, onion rings, and two pickle slices. Finish by spreading 1 tablespoon of ketchup on the top half of the bun.
7. Serve and Enjoy
Assemble the completed burger and serve immediately with desired side dishes.
