Ultimate Gourmet Grilled Cheese with Crab
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 4 slices challah bread
- 4 ounces cheddar cheese, sliced
- 4 ounces American cheese, sliced
- 4 ounces jack cheese, sliced
- 4 ounces gouda cheese, sliced
- 4 ounces gruyère cheese, sliced
- 8 ounces fresh crab meat, picked over for shells
- 4 slices pickles
- 4 tablespoons pickled jalapeños, sliced
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Bread
Mix the butter and mayonnaise together in a small bowl. Spread a thin layer of the mixture on one side of each bread slice (both sourdough and challah).
Step 2: Assemble the Sandwich
Place 2 slices of cheddar, 2 slices of American, 2 slices of jack, 2 slices of gouda, and 2 slices of gruyère cheese successively on the unbuttered side of two sourdough slices. Spread equal amounts of crab meat over the cheese layers. Top with slices of pickles and pickled jalapeños. Cover with the remaining challah and sourdough slices, buttered side out.
Step 3: Pan Frying
Preheat a pan over medium heat. Gently place each assembled sandwich into the pan. Cook for about 4 minutes on each side or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Press down slightly with a spatula to ensure even browning and cheese melting.
Step 4: Serve
Remove from the pan, cut each sandwich in half and serve hot.
