Ultimate Grilled Basil Avocado Melt
Ingredients
- 8 slices sandwich bread
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- 1 bunch fresh basil leaves, washed and patted dry
- 2 ripe avocados, peeled, pitted, and sliced
- 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ingredients:
Slice the avocados and tomatoes, and pat the basil leaves dry with a paper towel.
2. Assemble the Sandwiches:
a. Lay out the slices of sandwich bread on a clean surface.
b. On half of the slices, layer 1 slice of provolone, several basil leaves, slices of avocado, and slices of tomato.
c. Lightly season the avocado and tomato layers with salt.
d. Top each with another slice of provolone cheese and a second slice of bread.
3. Butter the Bread:
a. Evenly spread the softened butter on the outside of each sandwich.
4. Preheat the Pan:
Set a stove-top skillet or griddle over medium-low heat and let it warm up for about 2 minutes.
5. Grill the Sandwiches:
a. Place the sandwiches on the skillet, buttered side down.
b. Grill each sandwich for about 3-5 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melty. Avoid pressing the sandwiches too hard to maintain their structure.
6. Rest and Slice:
Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and allow them to rest for a minute. This helps the cheese set slightly for easier slicing. Slice each sandwich diagonally and serve immediately.
