Ultimate Grilled Cheese with Basil Tomato Soup
Ingredients
For the Grilled Cheese:
- 8 slices of bread (your choice of white, whole grain, or sourdough)
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- 8 slices cheddar cheese
For the Basil Tomato Soup:
- 2 cans (about 28 ounces each) tomato soup
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
Instructions
Prepare the Grilled Cheese:
1. Preheat your pan: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. This usually takes about 5 minutes (PT5M).
2. Butter the bread: Spread about 1/2 tablespoon of softened butter on one side of each slice of bread.
3. Assemble sandwiches: Place two slices of cheddar cheese between two slices of buttered bread, with the buttered sides facing outwards. Repeat to create four sandwiches.
4. Pan fry the sandwiches: Place the sandwiches in the preheated skillet. Cook each sandwich for about 3-4 minutes on each side until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese is melted. This should take a total of 10 minutes (PT10M).
Prepare the Basil Tomato Soup:
5. Heat the soup: Pour the tomato soup into a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally for about 5 minutes, until thoroughly heated (PT5M).
6. Add cream and seasonings: Slowly stir in the heavy cream, followed by salt and black pepper. Mix well to combine.
7. Simmer: Let the soup simmer for an additional 5 minutes (PT5M), stirring occasionally.
8. Add basil: Just before serving, stir in the fresh basil for a fresh, aromatic flavor.
