Ultimate Smoked Salmon on the Green Egg
Ingredients
- 4 salmon fillets (approximately 6 oz each)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 lemons, thinly sliced
- 1/3 cup apple wood pellets
- 1/3 cup cherry wood pellets
- 1/3 cup maple wood pellets
Instructions
1. Prepare the Green Egg:
- Set up your Green Egg grill according to the manufacturer's instructions. Aim for a temperature of 225°F by adjusting the vents and adding the apple, cherry, and maple pellets for optimal smoke flavor.
2. Salmon Preparation:
- Rinse the salmon fillets under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- Coat both sides of each fillet with olive oil to ensure they remain moist.
3. Season the Salmon:
- Mix the garlic powder, kosher salt, and black pepper in a small bowl.
- Rub this seasoning mixture evenly over both sides of the salmon fillets.
4. Add Lemons:
- Place 2–3 lemon slices on top of each salmon fillet. The citrus will infuse the fish with a fresh flavor while smoking.
5. Smoking the Salmon:
- Arrange the prepared salmon fillets directly onto the Green Egg's grilling grate, skin-side down.
- Close the lid and smoke the salmon at 225°F for approximately 60 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F and fish flakes easily with a fork.
6. Resting:
- Remove the salmon from the Green Egg using a spatula or tongs. Allow it to rest for 5 minutes to let the juices redistribute.
7. Serving:
- Serve the smoked salmon warm, garnished with additional fresh lemon slices if desired.
