Warm Autumn Fruit Compote with Cinnamon and Spice

Ingredients

- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 2 medium pears, peeled, cored, and diced
- 1 cup strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup coconut sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin spice mix
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Instructions

1. Prepare the Fruits
Place the diced apples, pears, and sliced strawberries in a large bowl. Drizzle with lemon juice to prevent browning, and gently toss to coat.

2. Combine Sugars and Spices
In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, coconut sugar, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves, and pumpkin spice mix. Set aside.

3. Begin Cooking
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the butter and let it melt completely. Once the butter is melted, add the cinnamon stick to infuse flavor and stir for about a minute.

4. Add Fruits and Sweeteners
Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the apples, pears, and strawberries to the skillet. Sprinkle the sugar and spice mixture over the fruits, and add the vanilla extract, honey, and maple syrup. Stir well to ensure the fruits are evenly coated.

5. Simmer the Compote
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let it cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes or until the fruits are tender and a thick syrup has formed.

6. Finishing Touches
Remove the cinnamon stick. Taste and adjust sweetness or spices if desired. Allow the compote to cool slightly before serving warm.
