Warm Spiced Fruit Medley with Orange Essence
Ingredients
- 1 cup dried cranberries
- 1 cup dried apricots, chopped
- 1 cup pitted dates, chopped
- 1 cup dried cherries
- 1 cup raisins
- 2 cups orange juice
- 1 cinnamon stick
Instructions
1. Combine the Ingredients
Place a medium-sized saucepan on the stove. Add the dried cranberries, dried apricots, chopped dates, dried cherries, raisins, and the cinnamon stick to the saucepan.
2. Add the Liquid
Pour 2 cups of orange juice over the mixed dried fruits and cinnamon stick in the saucepan.
3. Heat and Simmer
Turn the stove to medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low. Cover the saucepan and let the mixture simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the dried fruits to absorb the orange juice and spices, becoming tender and juicy.
4. Check Consistency
After 20 minutes, remove the lid and check the consistency of the fruit medley. The fruits should be plump and most of the liquid should be absorbed. If there is still too much liquid, continue to simmer uncovered for an additional 5-10 minutes until the desired consistency is reached.
5. Cool and Serve
Once cooked, remove the cinnamon stick and let the fruit medley cool slightly before serving warm. You can serve it as a delightful accompaniment to a savory dinner or as a sweet after-dinner treat.
