Zesty Stir-Fried Tuna with Capers and Lemon Mustard Dressing
Ingredients
- 12 oz canned tuna, drained
- 2 tbsp capers, rinsed
- 1 shallot, finely chopped
- 1 stalk celery, finely diced
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1/2 tsp lemon pepper
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp olive oil, divided
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ingredients:
- Drain the canned tuna thoroughly and set aside.
- Finely chop the shallot and dice the celery stalk.
- Rinse the capers to remove excess salt.
2. Make the Dressing:
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1 tbsp olive oil, Dijon mustard, lemon pepper, lemon juice, and mayonnaise until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
3. Heat the Pan:
- Place a skillet over medium heat and add the remaining 1 tbsp of olive oil. Let it heat until shimmering.
4. Stir Fry the Shallot and Celery:
- Add the shallot and celery to the heated skillet. Stir occasionally, cooking for about 3-4 minutes or until they are softened and fragrant.
5. Add Tuna and Capers:
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add the drained tuna and rinsed capers to the skillet. Stir fry for another 3-4 minutes, carefully breaking apart large chunks of tuna with a spatula.
6. Incorporate the Dressing:
- Reduce the heat to low and pour the Dijon mustard dressing over the stir-fried tuna. Stir well to evenly coat the ingredients. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
7. Final Seasoning:
- Taste the stir fry and adjust seasoning with additional salt, pepper, or lemon juice, if needed.
8. Serve:
- Transfer the stir-fried tuna mixture to a serving platter or individual bowls. Optionally, garnish with fresh herbs like parsley for added freshness.
